There and Back Again

Dear Friends,

I have returned from my last Europe trip to Switzerland and Germany where I was involved in a single military retreat and did follow-up ministry at both Spangdahlem and Ramstein Air Bases. It was a wonderful trip with lots of reunited relationships with guys and gals with whom I have been over the last several years.

I had opportunity to meet with guys one-on-one and talk about foundations and our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God moved in the hearts of some of the people bringing them to a deeper understanding of His redemptive work. Very exciting!

My good Friend and Brother in the Lord, Max Strange, has left his previous ministry after completing his work in Germany and returned to the States to come on board with Pilgrim Road Ministries and do discipleship in Ohio under the authority of his church there. He and I will be working together throughout the year doing retreats and conferences as we begin to plan strategy in that area. We are hosting our first retreat, the Reason Together Summit 2005, October 7-9 for a group of men as we look at the foundations and biblical texts for the doctrine of Justification. We are hoping to facilitate more of these for men’s groups around the country in the hear future.

The Pilgrim Road website is being updated, so you will have to stay tuned for those changes. Please visit at www.pilgrimroad.org and click on Max’s link to learn more of his heart for the Lord.

I was honored to preach and do music at The Citadel – my alma mater in Charleston, SC last weekend. It is odd to think that 13 years ago, I was sitting out there as a freshman trying hard to stay awake in the quiet and cool contrast to the hectic and frantic life as a cadet.

I leave again in less than two weeks for my sixth military tour in Europe on October 11th where my first stop will be at a European-wide Military men’s conference where my father will be speaking and I will be leading music. I will continue on the road in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Germany until December 7th, when I will return to the States for the holidays. I just received a request from Kuwait to go there for my last week and minister to the deployed troops right after Thanksgiving. Please pray with me that this will come to fruition.

Thanks to those of you who faithfully stay in touch with my on-the-go life and pray for me and the ministry and calling God has given. I appreciate your friendship very much. I hope to hear from you all again soon!

A Short Layover

Dear Friends,

I am back from my Sabbatical in full tilt as things are heating up in South Carolina and I get ready for my fall season of touring. My summer retreat rendered six new songs that I plan to begin sharing on the road soon – so if I come to your area, expect some new tunes in the mix.

August 12th I held my annual Khaki and White, Pilgrim Road FAVO (Friends And Volunteers Of) Party. It was so good to have time with friends who have given so much to help further the vision for Pilgrim Road through their gifts, work, and prayers.

I leave this Friday, August 26th beginning the first segment of the fall tour heading first to Ohio, then on to Switzerland and Germany for a military retreat with many soldiers I have been with throughout the last few years. I return to the U.S. mid September for a month of traveling in the Southeast and also in New York. I will be returning to my alma mater The Citadel in Charleston on September 25th for a chapel service where I will be playing some music and preaching for the cadets.

Pray as the Europe Military Tour VI begins in October as the schedule begins to fill rapidly. We are in the stages of processing paperwork for my tour in Afghanistan in November/early December. This would be a great time of ministry and encouragement. There are still a few dates remaining throughout October-December, so if you are in Europe and would like a return visit for a concert, house ministry, or retreat, contact me through the website, and we will work on making that happen. Also – booking for spring and the upcoming Live Sessions for “Acoustic Graffiti” are in development – stay tuned and get involved!

As I depart, my heart is drawn to God’s Word and the Faithful men of Hebrews chapter 11 who sought our great and sovereign God with hearts set on eternity and a vision of a home far greater than the world’s dwelling places. God is faithful – He will do it!

On Sabbatical - Refreshed & New Songs

Dear Friends,

I know that it has been a very long time since you have had an update. Thanks for all your prayer, support and communication over this last year.

I had a short, but great time to catch up with friends and family over the 4th of July, and then departed on July 5th for a long-awaited sabbatical for four weeks to write and rest here in Otavalo, Ecuador.

I have a week left and God has been so gracious to make this time both restful and productive. I am sorry to say that while many of you in America have been suffering through the summer’s sweltering heat, the temps here have been absolutely incredible – a cool eighty degrees, breezy, crisp days, and mostly clear skies. The views of the Andes Mountains are spectacular bringing me inspiration on many fronts.

I have written new music – four new songs is the count at the moment. I have also worked on and about completed a book that I have been writing and hope to release at some point this year if it is the Lord’s will.

The fall tour is coming together quickly, and I am looking forward to seeing many of you again and some of you that I haven’t seen in a very long time. Pray with me as the prospect of heading to a forward deployment or two in some very hot places is looking better and better. This will be great ministry opportunity. Also keep posted for January as I am planning on doing a three-day live session recording in Greenville in preparation to release my 10 year Live Album of favorite songs and stories called “Acoustic Graffiti.” This is an invitation for your presence for the session in a live venue for one or all of the three days. More details in the coming months!

For now, I must go. I’m out in the mountains horse-back riding today. Maybe I’ll be inspired! Thanks again for staying in touch.

Home Again - Five Down . . .

Dear Friends,

I returned to Greenville last Thursday evening concluding my fifth tour with the military overseas. The tour went well with many great opportunities for ministry and encouragement through the Word of God and music. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to all our service men and women and families serving overseas, seperated from family, friends, and spouses for months at a time. It has been a proviledge and honor to serve those who are serving us, bringing spiritual challenge and words of life from God's Word.

Thanks to IMA-E (Installation Management Agency - Europe), Chaplain Strong, Chaplain Madtes, and Marty McCarty for initiating this contract and making this tour possible. I hope to work more with the Army in this capacity in the near future.

It is good to be home and see friends and family. I have a summer break coming up when I hope to write new material. Many things are brewing in my heart to develop new music and messages. I have been blessed with a great retreat during the month of July for spiritual refreshment and personal rest. Please pray that the Lord will grant me creativity to put these exciting truths from God's Word into lyrics and messages that will encourage people world-wide as God continues to open new opportunities for ministry.

I hope to see many of you soon. Please drop a line to keep in touch!

Pack light and don't forget your passport,

Europe 2005

Friends,

Things are going well and very busy on this tour. I have been here just short of two weeks and have played nearly every day and often more than once. I started in Garmisch in southern Germany in Bavaria and then went on to Stuttgart where I did concerts and a youth program and reunited with many friends from past tours.

I am in Belgium now having just left the Netherlands yesterday and fighting a bad sinus cold. I have lost my voice and am supposed to do a concert tonight. I have no idea how it is going to go, but I will trust that Lord that His purposes for ministry will prevail.

I fly to Italy on Monday and will have a day off somewhere in there to rest a little. Please pray that I can keep my health in good condition and rest well everywhere I go. In between concerts is when there has been a lot of incredible ministry time with folks that I meet that are in the service, families of servicemen and women and chaplains. It is such an honor to serve in this capacity.

Stay in touch.

Ready - Steady . . . GO!

Friends

Spring has sprung, and it seems time has not even allowed me to hardly even take a breath, and I am off again! So – c’mon with me on this next trip as I return to Europe April 17th under an Army Contract to minister to our troops and families along-side our dedicated Army Chaplain Corps.

I will be gone touring eight weeks with the Army to every Area Support Group (ASG) in Europe. It will be great meeting new people and re-uniting with old friends throughout my time. Please check out the new itinerary posted on the Tour Dates link. I will be at bases in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Italy.

Yes – I did thaw out after returning from Alaska, but hit the ground running with spring preparations and engagements. Among some House Concerts hosted locally, I returned for my fifth year to University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown, PA where my great friend Jim Gay is campus minister. It was a wonderful time with the students in concert, one-on-one, and in teaching sessions.

I also just returned this week from speaking at a youth retreat at Bonclarken in Flat Rock, NC with 1st ARP of Gastonia where my buddy Alex Pettett – Citadel Class of ’96 – is youth pastor. We looked at “Knowing Him” - a topic which has deeply challenged me in recent weeks. I left for Summerville, SC on Sunday and played at Bethany United Methodist Church that evening and had a wonderful time with my new friends there.

As Summer approaches and the colors and blossoms of Spring announce warmer days, I will leave my beloved South Carolina and all my friends once again. I covet your prayers as I travel and ask that you pray that God be glorified in my role in ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the teaching of His Word and the encouragement brought through my songs.

Let’s GO!

Thawing Out in South Carlina

Furhat
Friends!

Thank you so much for your prayers during my Arctic/Alaskan journey.
Thanks too for your messages on the road.

It is good to be home, but lingering memories of new friends, times of
ministry, and unbelievable experiences remain. God was faithful to
continue to teach me incredible lessons through His Sovereign hand's mighty
work through broken vessels.

After leaving Anchorage, I spent time with SEND International in
Glennallen and with students from the Alaskan Bible College. This was not
only a rich time in buliding new relationships and fellowshiping in
the Word, but a time providing some needed rest personally and
opportunity to see some more of God's beautiful handiwork in His
creation.

My last week was full of outreach and concerts at Eielson AFB and Ft
Greely Army installation reconnecting with old acquantances and
forging new friendships with brothers and sisters in Christ. Our
retreat at Birch Lake afforded the opportunity to share Christ's
message of hope with some soldiers searching to know the truth of the
gospel and others desiring deeper growth in their relationship with
the Lord.

I am home now and pressing onward into my March schedule of venues
here in South Carolina, as well as Pennsylvania and North Carolina. I
am continuing to schedule the remainder of 2005 - so contact us for
booking, and I'll drop on in and pick a song or two.

Pack light and don't forget your passport.

The Alaska Bush & Beyond

IMG_2140IMG_2131

Hello friends!

Thanks for all your prayers for me and my schedule while I have been here in Alaska. I have just left my two weeks in the Bush of western Alaska - and what an experience it was! My expectations were met with more than I could have imagined. Things went very well there, and I forged some great new friendships with brothers and sisters in Christ! I traveled from village to village in either small aircraft or on snow machine down rivers and through streams frozen over by the extreme
cold. The temperatures stayed well below zero for most of my time there capping off at -33 the day I returned to Anchorage.

I now understand better the prayer and support our missionaries and Christian friends need in far-reaching areas within our own borders. Keep Bill and Wanda Wilson in your prayers as they minister to folks along the Kuskaquam River. the Wilsons are with SEND International and were my host family in the bush.

Along with the extreme conditions of arctic winters, however, comes some fun and memorable events - namely trapping. I got to experience running a trap line with a couple of brothers 35 miles into the wilderness in sub-zero weather for about 15 hours. Word of Warning!! - if you even decide to buy really warm boots, make sure you shop outside of South Carolina. (Draw your own conclusions there!) I was amazed by the beauty of God's creation and the adaptability of man to its various
conditions. It was an experience I will not soon forget!

I just spent two days in Anchorage where I did music in a Christian School and reconnected with a "neighbor in the sky" - Steve Alden - who I met on a flight from Seattle. He is a great Christian brother with a wonderful family, and I look forward to spending more time and laughter with them in the future.

I just arrived in Glennallen today after not being able to fly yesterday due to weather. I will do a house concert tonight for the
SEND missionary staff and then a chapel service at the Alaska Bible College Tuesday morning before heading to Clear AFS near Fairbanks. There is lots of snow, and I will be driving for most of the remainder of this trip. Pray that I don't have any sudden meetings with moose - they tend to own the roads!

Thanks for your friendship and prayer! I hope to see you all soon!

Alaska Bound

Hey Friends!

I take off again tomorrow morning for Alaska on my Musicianary Expedition 2005. I have had a great break over the holidays and am now gearing up for a very busy year. I hope that you stay in touch as I travel and strive to be much better at updates.

I will be spending the first two weeks in the western bush of Alaska in remote villages doing concerts and teaching some character education classes to high school boys in the public schools. The second half of my trip will combine local and military ministry. I will be at the Alaska Bible College February 15th and then head to Clear AFS, Eielson AFB, Cadence Base Camp Ministry at North Pole, a single military retreat at Birch Lake, and Ft Greely.

Pray that God will be glorified throughout the trip and that the message of the gospel of hope, life and God's Glory be proclaimed boldly through the music and the teaching that God has laid upon my heart.

I recently spent some quality time in the mountains gaining much needed refreshment before the road starts again. I have been reading some great Spurgeon sermons and writings of Jonathan Edwards. Take my challenge to dive into the works of these old greats and find incredible richness in their encouraging pursuit of God!

Wish you all could come with me - but join me in prayer and through the updates!
